Such questions are often the decisive ones. For taking a closer look at and analysing them will often reveal new perspectives and background information on a topic or a statement.

The Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management therefore carries out regular fact checks on topics of particular relevance that attract public attention. We hope that the answers will help to separate facts from assertions.

Fact check on current nuclear projects in the USA and France

At times, claims are made regarding the possibilities of reusing high-level radioactive waste in the USA or the progress in the development of new, small reactors (SMR) in France. This short fact check investigates these claims and categorises them.

Fact check: Does the search for a final repository limit the expansion of geothermal energy use?

In a public statement, the German Geothermal Association criticised the search for a final repository and in particular the associated task of protecting possible final repository sites for radioactive waste. The statement was based on a range of misrepresentations. As the use of geothermal energy is interesting for numerous private builders, BASE objectified the discussion by subjecting the statements made by the association to a fact check on five central points.
